Spring is a, ahem, difficult season here in Vermont. In fact, I hesitate to even refer to it as spring since we really don’t even have a spring here, at least not until much later than everyone else. We have mud season, then fake spring, then torrential, flooding rains, and then finally, finally, around the end of May, we get a few weeks of what everyone else refers to as spring.

I’m already always devasted because ski season has ended (cut to me standing in the bedroom crying on closing day at my ski mountain ha ha) – I do not jest! And if we went straight into a gorgeous, warm and sunny spring, it would ease the blow. But T.S. Eliot was right, April truly is the cruelest month.

I try to make the best of it, but at least in winter, you can almost always get outside and enjoy things, there is just literally nothing you can do on a rainy day in Vermont. Besides uh, Netflix. And snacks. Vermont is a state that shines for outdoor activities, but there are only so many movies and museums one can go to here, we Vermonters live to be outside!

We’ve had a few beautiful days here and there (cue fake spring) but overall it’s a tough season that can last well into June (I’ve enjoyed a few icy cold, rainy birthdays here already!). But knowing how beautiful our summers are eases the pain a little bit, you know it’s not going to be this way forever but darn it’s hard! So to tide us all over, a few images I have taken while dodging raindrops. And if you have great suggestions for rainy day activities in Vermont, I’m all ears! Because Netflix, you know, gets old fast. Stick with me, better days ahead for sure!
